Dr. Eiler Sommerhaug: A Capable Plastic Surgeon
Raised in the East Bay, Eiler Sommerhaug, M.D. has a unique background as a plastic surgeon. He has a blend of artistry and technical abilities. At a young age, he began to draw and paint and became an accomplished artist. He has many of his paintings and drawings on display around the bay area and occasionally at Plastic Surgery meetings.
Because both of his parents are from Norway, some of his favorite landscape paintings draw their inspirations from there. In his spare time, he continues to pursue his interest in art. Recently, he assisted in teaching the sculpting class at one of the plastic surgery meetings and was invited to Italy to teach. This background enables Dr. Sommerhaug to combine art and surgery.
Dr. Sommerhaug’s education began at U.C. Davis, in Davis, California, where he graduated with honors with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1988. He then went on to pursue medicine and graduated with honors from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York in 1993.
His postgraduate training includes an Internship and General Surgery Residency at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California from 1993–1999, where he was voted chief resident by his peers. He then completed his Plastic Surgery Fellowship, also at U.C. Davis Medical Center from 1999–2001. From 2001–2006, he was a full-time assistant professor of Plastic Surgery at U.C. Davis Medical Center before moving to the beautiful North Bay.
